Cavaliers Fall to Western Ontario in Hoehn Cup

HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 14 Virginia men’s squash team (14-7) fell, 7-2, in the opening round of the Hoehn Cup, against No. 11 Western Ontario (9-2) on Friday (Feb. 23) at Trinity’s Kellner Squash Courts in Hartford, Conn.
The Cavaliers captured wins from freshman Andrew Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) in position nine and sophomore Toby Hansford (Darien, Conn.) in position six, respectively. Braff recorded a 12-10, 11-7, 11-9 win against Bryan Hall, while Hansford defeated Adam Vanwyngaarden 5-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-6.
Freshman Matthew Katz (Baltimore, Md.) battled through a five-game loss in position seven, falling 5-11, 11-5, 11-1, 5-11, 11-5, to Jackson Kay, while junior Jarett Odrich (Greenwich, Conn.) forced a fourth-game in position three, losing to Akasham Rajaopaul 11-6, 13-11, 9-11, 11-8.
Junior Grayson Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) rounded out the day, suffering a 3-2 loss to Brett Schille. He fell 12-14, 11-8, 11-7, 16-18, 11-6 in position three.
The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow to face No. 15 Cornell (6-13) in the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. at the Kellner Squash Courts.
