Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia women’s golf team returns to action this week when the Cavaliers play in the seventh annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,160-yard Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. The tournament runs Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4.
The 17-team field features Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Furman, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Northwestern, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Virginia’s lineup will include juniors Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.), Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) and Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.), sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.).
The Cavaliers will be paired with Vanderbilt and Tennessee during Thursday’s opening round.
Redding leads the team with a 70.86 stroke average and is ranked No. 36 by Golfstat while Lillie is second on the team with a 71.50 average that figures 44th in the Golfstat standings.
The Cavaliers are coming off a third-place finish at the 12-team Florida State Match-Up Tournament. Redding led UVA with a seventh-place performance, shooting 5-under 211.
First- and second-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday’s final round will start at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available online at Golfstat.com.
