Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) posted back-to-back rounds of 1-under 71 to help the Virginia men’s golf team tie for fourth place after the first two round at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Cavaliers’ first-day score stands at 5-over 581. No. 8 Georgia Tech leads the 15-team field at 567.

Virginia had rounds of even par 288 and 5-over 293 on Saturday to share fourth place with No. 12 LSU.

Walsh’s 2-under 142 performance has him positioned in seventh place after the second round. He was UVA’s top performer in the Hoos’ appearance at the Palmetto Intercollegiate earlier in the week.

Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) are tied for 24th place at 2-over 146. Walker shot 71 and 75 while Orischak carded identical rounds of 73.

Sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) is in 31st place at 147 with scores of 73 and 74. Freshman Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) is 74th at 154. He shot 79 and 75. Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) is competing as an individual. He finished in 38th place at 148 with rounds of 77 and 71. He completed his second round by carding birdies on four of his final five holes.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday.
