Greensboro, Ga. – Thanks to a strong finish, the No. 44 Virginia men’s golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard and finished the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational in fifth place. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 287 at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga., for a two-day total of 3-under 573. Georgia leads the 16-team field at 558, one shot ahead of No. 8 Alabama.

UVA’s four counting players played the final two holes at 6-under par to allow them to move up in the team standings after entering the day in sixth position.

Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) shot 3-under 69 to move up to a tie for seventh place at 4-under 140. He opened his round with four consecutive pars before posting a bogey on the par-4 fifth hole. He went on to net four birdies, playing the back nine at 3-under par.

Sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) also finished the round under par. He shot 1-under 71 and improved to 19th place at 1-under 143. Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is one shot behind him in 26th position after completing the round at 1-over 73. Sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) is in 39th place at 146. He shot 74 during the second round while classmate Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) is in 78th place at 156. Freshman Brandon Yoon (Ashburn, Va.), competing as an individual, is in 83rd place at 158.

Virginia will tee off at 9:20 a.m. during Tuesday’s final round. The Cavaliers will be paired with UNCG and Ohio State. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
