CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team had nine players named to the 2017 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Squad. The entire Cavalier team was also honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association with the 2017 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Team Award, the seventh-straight year the squad earned that distinction.

The ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Virginia’s honorees were redshirt freshman Hannah Cregg (Andover, Mass.), junior Nikki Freeman (Downington, Pa.), freshman Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.), redshirt junior Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.), junior Izzy McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.), senior Emily Miller (Winston-Salem, N.C.), freshman Rachel Robinson (Mount Joy, Pa.), sophomore Catesby Willis (Fredericksburg, Va.) and senior Becca Zamojcin (Phoenixville, Pa.).

Lucas, Zamojcin and Miller each earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers. Miller was lauded as a Scholar of Distinction, which recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Miller is enrolled in the graduate school, working on a master’s degree in biomedical engineering.

The Cavaliers were one of 76 programs this year to earn the ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Academic Team Award, bestowed upon programs with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
