Legacy
For #UVAFH sophomore midfielder Catesby Willis (2nd from left), being a Hoo is in her blood, six generations of her blood. Willis’ family, including her sister Phoebe (far left) who also played field hockey for the Cavaliers (2009-12), has been attending UVA since 1861, a familial affiliation whose endurance spans the American Civil War, both world wars, women’s suffrage, the first man on the moon, the civil rights movement, the advent of the internet, 9/11, the first African-American president (and beyond). This article by Whitelaw Reid of UVA Today takes a look at the 25 (or more, they lost count) members of the Willis family who have attended the University of Virginia.
