Charlottesville, Va. – The 45th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team returns to action this week at the Gary Koch Invitational at Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C. The tournament features 36 holes of play Monday and 18 holes Tuesday. The tournament is hosted by Kentucky and Auburn.

This year’s field features Auburn, Coastal Carolina, Florida State, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi and Western Carolina.

UVA’s lineup includes senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and freshmen WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) and Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.). Sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) will compete as an individual.

Walsh leads UVA with a 71.08 stroke average and is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Linger Longer Invitational in UVA’s last tournament. He was sixth at last year’s tournament, as UVA placed sixth in the 14-team field.

The Cavaliers will be paired with Jacksonville and Ole Miss during Monday’s play that gets underway at 7:45 a.m.
