CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior coxswain Izzi Weiss (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Isabella Strickler (Gross Pointe, Mich.) have been named to the 2018 USRowing Under-23 National Team Selection Camp, USRowing announced Thursday (April 19). In addition, UVA junior Mackenzie King (Yardley, Pa.) was named to the waitlist for the camp.

At the Under-23 National Team Selection Camp, the duo will compete for spots on crews that will represent the U.S. at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships July 25-29 in Poznan, Poland. Weiss will compete for a spot on the women’s eight and four boats, while Strickler will battle for a spot on the women’s quad.

In 2016-17, Weiss coxed the UVA’s Second Varsity Eight to a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships and second-place finish at the ACC Championship. In 2015-16, Weiss coxed UVA’s Second Varsity Eight to the ACC title and fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Weiss is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Strickler was a member of the Second Varsity Eight that placed 12th at the 2017 NCAA Championships and second at the ACC Championship. Strickler was also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

King was a member of UVA’s Varsity Four that placed 10th at the 2017 NCAA Championships and Second Varsity Eight that placed second at the ACC Championship. She was part of the ACC champion Varsity Four in 2016 and is a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete and two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

The No. 9 Cavaliers host No. 10 Princeton on Saturday (April 21) at Lake Monticello. First race is scheduled for 9 a.m.
