Lynchburg, Va. – On Sunday afternoon, Virginia freshman Jimmie Massie won the 2018 FoxPuss Tournament. The event was held at Boonsboro Country Club in Massie’s hometown of Lynchburg, Va.

Massie posted rounds of 75, 68 and 66 for a 54-hole total of 4-under 209. He defeated Justin Young of Roanoke in a two-hole playoff for medalist honors. Massie’s final round featured five birdies and no bogeys.

The FoxPuss has a rich history in the Virginia State Golf Association. Late in the year 1970, a committee was formed to establish a 54-hole medal invitational golf tournament for the members and invited guests of Boonsboro Country Club. The tournament was given the name “FOX PUSS” to honor two of Boonsboro’s members that for many years had devoted their talents and time to amateur golf in the State of Virginia and the Lynchburg area, Mr. H. M. “Fox” Blankinship and Mr. Charles “Puss” Hancock. Both of these gentlemen were former Presidents of the Virginia State Golf Association. The tournament has been in existence since 1971.
