Stillwater, Okla. – The No. 27 Virginia women’s golf team was in 22nd place following the second round of play at the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla. UVA finished its round in near darkness due to a 90-minute weather delay during the afternoon as the Cavalier players were making the turn at Karsten Creek Golf Club.

UVA shot 14-over 302 on Saturday, a 13-shot improvement over its opening round score, but moved up the leaderboard by just one position. The Cavaliers enter the third round at 41-over 617.

Third-ranked UCLA finished the second round with a five-shot lead over top-ranked Alabama. The Bruins shot 9-under 279 for a two-day total of 3-under 573.

Following Sunday’s round, the top 15 teams will advance to a fourth round of stroke play. UVA is 10 shots behind the teams on the cutline after 36 holes of competition.

Junior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) led UVA on Saturday with an even-par 72. That included a birdie on the 18th green in near-dark conditions. She finished the day tied for 19th place at 2-over 146.

Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) move up to 93rd place after shooting 74 for a two-day total of 12-over 156. Anna Redding is tied with her on the leaderboard after posting a second-round score of 76. Freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) is in 115th place at 161 and sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) is in 120th place at 162.

UVA is paired with Ole Miss and Ohio State during Sunday’s third round. Those teams will start at 1:21 CTS from the 10th tee.
