Virginia Wrestlers Achieve Academic Success In Spring Semester

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Members of the Virginia wrestling team experienced success in the classroom in the spring semester with five wrestlers earning degrees and 19 members of the squad posting above a 3.0 grade point average for the semester.

Five members of the squad received cords as part of ceremonies on Friday before graduation ceremonies over the weekend. Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.), Zak DePasquale (Fairfax, Va.), Chance McClure (Commerce, Ga.), Garrett Peppelman (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Will Schany (Blair, Neb.) all received degrees this past weekend.

The five highlighted a program that posted a team GPA above the 3.0 mark for the semester and saw 19 wrestlers named to the honor roll with a GPA above that mark. In all, 22-of-27 wrestlers posted a 2.8 GPA or higher for the semester.

In addition, Atkinson and Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Fla.) were named as All-Academic selections by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and were named to the 2018 ACC All-Academic Wrestling Team.
