The Virginia women’s lacrosse team had six players selected to the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced on Tuesday (June 26).

To be in consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes need a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

Seniors Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) and Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.), juniors Sophie Alecce (Baltimore, Md.), Kaitlin Luzik (Alexandria, Va.) and Avery Shoemaker (Wyndmoor, Pa.) and sophomore Sammy Meuller (Pelham, N.Y.) each earned the distinction for the Cavaliers. UVA tied with Boston College and Duke for the most selections.

Behr, who graduated with her degree in nursing in May, was an IWLCA First Team All-American this season. She finished with a single-season career-high 56 goals and picked up 65 draw controls. An All-ACC first team selection, Behr concluded her UVA career ranked seventh all-time with 153 career goals and fourth with 151 draw controls. This is the first ACC All-Academic honor for Behr.

Vander Kolk earned her fourth ACC All-Academic team honor after graduating with a degree in aerospace engineering in May. Vander Kolk started all 20 games in goal, recording 127 saves. She had double-digit saves in seven games this season, including a season-high 14 in the win over Stanford in the NCAA tournament.

Alecce earned her first academic team honor after moving into the starting lineup on defense this season. A second team All-ACC selection, Alecce recorded 12 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. She had a career-high four caused turnovers in the win at Princeton. Alecce is majoring in kinesiology.

Luzik, an All-ACC second team honoree, earned her first ACC academic honor. Luzik started all 20 games on defense, leading UVA with 35 caused turnovers on the season. She was second on the team with 46 ground balls and added nine draw controls. Luzik is majoring in global culture & commerce and media studies.

An IWLCA All-Region and All-ACC second team selection, Shoemaker was third on the team with 51 goals this season. She scored multiple goals in 17 games with 10 hat tricks. Shoemaker had a span of three straight games with four goals and scored four or more points in seven contests. This is the first ACC academic honor for Shoemaker.

Mueller, an IWLCA Third Team All-American and first team All-ACC selection, earned her second academic honor. Mueller led the Cavaliers with 74 points on 59 goals and 15 assists. Her 59 goals are tied for ninth in a single-season at UVA. Mueller scored multiple goals in a team-high 18 games with 13 hat tricks.
