CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball head coach Aaron Smith has announced the addition of David Nguyen and David Beck to the Cavaliers staff. Nguyen will serve as the director of volleyball operations while Beck joins as a volunteer assistant.
 
Nguyen comes to Virginia after spending the past four years on staff at VCU. During his time as a volunteer assistant for the Rams, Nguyen helped guide the program to an A-10 championship and NCAA appearance in 2017. With VCU he was directly responsible for overseeing the team’s scouting, film and statistical operations along with assisting in the training of the setters.
 
In addition to his time at VCU, Nguyen has experience in the club volleyball ranks. The new Virginia assistant served as an assistant coach in the Richmond Volleyball Club, working with the 16U boys squad.
 
Nguyen earned his bachelor of science in general mathematical sciences from VCU in 2018.
 
Beck joins the Cavaliers after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Georgia Southern for the past two years. While with the Eagles, Beck assisted in all aspects of running the program while earning a master’s in public administration.
 
Along with his work with the Georgia Southern program, Beck also coached for the Arizona Sky Club. He worked with the 18U women’s team and helped the club to its first USA Volleyball Nationals in program history.  
 
Beck played collegiate volleyball at Grand Canyon University from 2012-14. A native of Havre de Grace, Maryland, he graduated from GCU in 2016 with a degree in sports management.
