CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team will play a pair of scrimmages to prepare for the 2018 season, playing at American on Wednesday, August 15 at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C., followed by a home contest on Saturday, August 18 at 1 p.m. against James Madison at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

Live stats and recaps will not be available for the scrimmages.

The Cavaliers return a solid core of players from last year’s squad that captured the ACC regular-season title for the second time in the last four years.
 
The team will be anchored by senior goalkeeper Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.), striker Izzy McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.) and midfielders Greta Ell (Plains, Pa.) and Nikki Freeman (Downington, Pa.) The incoming freshman class includes one member of the US Women’s National Indoor Team, three members of the US U19 Indoor Team, four players on the US U19 Junior National Team as well as a member of the Dutch U18 junior national squad.

The regular-season begins on Friday, August 24 when the Cavaliers play at Drexel. Virginia’s first home game of the regular season is Sunday, Sept. 2 when it hosts Longwood at 1 p.m.

Admission will be free for all home scrimmages and regular-season field hockey games.
