Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 24 Virginia men’s golf team heads to Toledo this week to compete in the 14th-annual Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 24-25 at the Inverness Club. The 54-hole tournament will be played on a par-71, 7,172-yard layout that will be the first Intercollegiate since the course’s major renovation over the last year. The event will begin with 36 holes on Monday (8:45 a.m. shotgun start) followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday (8:30 a.m. tee times on Holes No. 1 and 10).

The tournament’s 12-team field includes Butler, Dayton, Fresno State, Louisiana, Mercer, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Saint Mary’s (Calif.), St. Bonaventure, Tennessee, Toledo and Virginia with Ohio State sending select individuals to participate.

A portion of Tuesday’s final round will be broadcast on ESPN3 with a scheduled air time of 12:30-3 p.m. 
 
Virginia’s lineup will feature senior All-American Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines), junior Andrew Orischak, freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.) and junior Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.). Sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) will compete as an individual. 
 
The Cavaliers opened the season with a seventh-place tie at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. Walsh led UVA by finishing 16th overall after shooting even par 216. 
 
The Inverness Club was founded in 1903, and along with the University of Toledo, served as host for the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships. Inverness will host the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur and 2021 Solheim Cup and has also hosted four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Amateur.
