Alhaqbani/Woodall Win A-Doubles Flight at Richmond Invitational

Four members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed at the Spider Invitational from Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7., in Richmond, Va.
In Sunday’s final day of action, sophomore Ammar Alhaqbani (Alexandria, Va.) and freshman William Woodall (Washington, D.C.) won the championship match of the top doubles flight, downing Andrew Ton and Jack Dabek of Navy 6-1 to win the A-flight title.
Sophomore Jerome Romualdez (Manila, Philippines) was also playing in a flight final in singles, falling to Longwood’s Rosen Naydenov 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the G-bracket final.
Alhaqbani and sophomore Spencer Bozsik (Charlottesville, Va.) played singles backdraw matches on the final day. Alhaqbani defeated Andre Limon of College of Charleston 6-2, 6-0 for a seventh-place finish in the A flight. Bozsik won 6-2, 6-1 over Tristan Bautil of William & Mary in flight F. Woodall, who had advanced to the semifinals of the top bracket, finished in third place in the A flight.
Romualdez and Bozsik fell 6-4 in a backdraw doubles match against Charlotte’s Michael Bass and Nathan Griffith.
Players from 15 schools competed in the tournament which is comprised of seven singles flights and five doubles brackets.
The Cavaliers will be competing at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships being held Thursday, Oct. 18 through Tuesday, Oct. 23 in Blacksburg, Va.
