UVA Falls Back to 10th Place at Battle at the Beach
San Lucas, Mexico – The No. 9 Virginia women’s golf team dropped back to 10th place after the second round of the Battle at the Beach at Club Campestre San Jose Golf Club in San Lucas, Mexico. The Cavaliers shot 18-over 302 and enter Sunday’s final round with a two-day total of 600. Auburn leads the 17-team field at 565.
UVA junior Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) continues to lead the Cavaliers. She posted a score of 3-over 74 for a two-day total of 4-over 146. Ford will enter the final round in 17th place. Senior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is in 46th place at 151 after shooting 78 on Saturday. Seniors Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) and Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) are tied for 51st place at 152. Patrick finished the second rounds with a 76 while Redding carded a score of 74. Sophomore Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) shot 78 and is in 64th place at 155.
Auburn’s Kaleigh Telfer shot 69 for the second consecutive round to lead the field at 4-under 138.
Virginia will be paired with Houston, Tulane and Baylor for Sunday’s final round. Those teams begin play with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. ET.
