CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Blue captured the final game of Virginia softball’s Blue and Orange Series with a 2-1 victory.

Hayley Busby (Phoenix, Ariz.) launched a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie. The solo shot held up as the difference maker thanks to stellar work in the circle from freshman Clare Zureich (Cary, N.C.).

Zureich worked the final three innings for Blue, allowing just two hits while striking out a pair. The southpaw did not concede a run in her outing to earn the save.

Lacy Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) earned the win for Blue. The senior threw four innings, allowing just a single unearned run. Smith surrendered only one hit while striking out a pair.

The Orange team opened the scoring, using a bunt from Molly Keshin (New Canaan, Conn.) to manufacture a run. The sophomore swiped second and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a double steal.

Blue answered right back in the top of the fourth, capitalizing on a pair of walks to push the tying run across. Busby’s solo shot scraped over the left field wall an inning later to produce the final score.
