El Paso, Texas – Virginia senior men’s golfer Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is tied for 13th place following the opening two rounds of play at the Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. Walsh posted rounds of 70 and 69 on Monday for a first-day total of 3-under 139. The tournament is being held at the El Paso Country Club. 
 
Matthias Schmid of Louisville and Bryson Nimmer of Clemson share the tournament lead at 11-under 131. 
 
The final round of the Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic is, Tuesday at 8 a.m. (MT). 
 
The invitational only tournament has featured some of golf’s brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete since its inaugural year in 1974. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler are just a handful of past participants who went on to have successful PGA careers. Sun Bowl All-America Golf Classic Alumni have combined to win 54 major championships and have earned over $2.12 billion in career earnings.
