CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia rowing head coach Kevin Sauer announced the Cavaliers’ 2019 schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 23). The nine-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions will compete in seven regattas and one scrimmage.
 
“We are very much looking forward to seeing some of the fastest teams in the country this spring,” Sauer said. “Every weekend of racing will be an opportunity to test our grit.”
 
Virginia will scrimmage ACC rival Duke on March 2 on the Rivanna River before heading to the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Tennessee on March 16-17. Last year, the Cavaliers won 12 of 17 races at the regatta, which has served as UVA’s official Spring opener for several seasons.
 
UVA will race Cal, Stanford and USC at the Pac-12 Invite on March 30-31 in Redwood Shores, Calif.
 
The Cavaliers host Big Ten heavyweights Ohio State and Michigan at Lake Monticello on April 6.
 
The Cavaliers travel to the competitive Clemson Invite on April 19-20 and conclude the regular season at the Longhorn Invite on April 27 in Austin, Texas.
 
The 20th ACC Rowing Championships will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 17-18 in Clemson, S.C., marking the 10th-straight year the Tigers have hosted the regatta. Virginia has won 18 of the 19 conference championships and has claimed 73 of the 80 events contested. The conference regatta features five events, including the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four.
 
The NCAA Championships return to Indianapolis, Ind., on May 31-June 2. The Cavaliers placed fifth at the NCAA Championships last season.
