CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The No. 9 Virginia women’s squash team (11-6) swept No. 18 Dickinson (5-5) and No. 20 Franklin and Marshall (5-7), defeating both programs 9-0 in matches at the Mid-Atlantic Team Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 2) at the McArthur Squash Center.  
 
Virginia opened the day against Franklin and Marshall as junior Tara Arya (Cupertino, Calif.) recorded an 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 win over Emily Knapp in position two. Senior Madeleine Mayhew (New York, N.Y.) followed with an 11-2, 11-1, 11-8 win in position eight against Liana Zranchey, while sophomore Emily Woodworth (Weston, Mass.) gave the Cavaliers a 3-0 start with her 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 victory against Emily Bartos in position four.
 
Senior Annie Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) captured a 12-10, 11-3, 11-3 win against Grace Smith in position six as junior Lois Lo (Hong Kong) clinched the Cavaliers’ fifth point with an 11-6, 11-2, 11-0 victory against Katherine Anderson in position nine.
 
Virginia rounded out the match against the Diplomats with freshman Emma Jinks (Stratford, Canada) winning 11-6, 11-4, 11-3 against Ellen Verry at the top of the ladder, while junior Elle Carroll (New York, N.Y.) defeated Partiksha Mishra 11-2, 11-1, 11-8 in position seven. Freshman Caroline Baldwin (Rye, N.Y.) and sophomore Giovanna Veiga de Almeida (Belo Hoorizonte, Brazil) topped positions three and five, respectively. Baldwin won 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 against Katherine Galambos, while Almeida went 13-11, 11-4, 11-4 against Melissa Epstein.
 
In the team’s match against Dickinson, Baldwin secured the first point with her 11-6, 11-3, 11-6 score over Nicole DeLuca in position four. Almeida followed, topping Jaime-Leigh Eddghill 11-5, 11-3, 11-1, while Carroll topped Rachel O’Brien 12-10, 11-1, 11-2 in position eight.
 
Arya cliched a 3-0 win in position three, defeating Eloise Nimoityn 11-7, 11-5, 11-5, while freshman Mandy Haywood (Christ Church, Barbados) rallied for a come-from-behind victory in position two against Courtney Trail. Haywood recorded a 6-11, 3-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8 score for the win.
 
Virginia captured wins from Tyson and Woodworth in positions seven and five, respectively. Tyson defeated Alanis Perez 11-4, 11-2, 11-1, while Woodworth topped Abbie Wingerd 11-2, 11-1, 11-2.
 
Mayhew captured the team’s eighth point, defeating Sarah Murphy in position nine 11-6, 11-6, 11-4, while Jinks rounded out the day, going 11-9, 11-1, 11-3 against Lindsay Kuracina in position one.
 
The Cavaliers will conclude the Mid-Atlantic Team Tournament tomorrow, facing No. 15 George Washington at 11:30 a.m.
