CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The No. 9 Virginia women’s squash team (15-6) defeated Boston College (8-1) 9-0 on Saturday (Feb. 9) in the team’s opening match of the Virginia Home Round Robin at the McArthur Squash Center.
 
Senior Candace Craig (Crozet, Va.) and junior Julia Thompson (Newtown Square, Pa.) rattled off the Cavaliers’ opening points with Craig winning 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 in position nine and Thompson recording an 11-1, 11-0, 11-4 win in position five.
 
Junior Isabelle Ezratty (Greenwich, Conn.) captured the team’s next win, going 11-1, 11-4, 11-1 in position seven.
 
Sophomore Emily Woodworth (Weston, Mass.) won 11-2, 11-3, 11-5 in position three as junior Tara Arya (Cupertino, Calif.) secured the top of the order with a 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 score.
 
Senior Madeleine Mayhew (New York, N.Y.) captured an 11-2, 11-2, 11-1 win in position six, while freshman Caroline Baldwin (Rye, N.Y.) won 11-4, 11-2, 11-1 in position two.
 
Virginia closed the day with junior Lois Lo (Hong Kong) and senior Annie Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) winning in positions eight and four, respectively. Lo recorded a score of 11-3, 11-2, 11-4, while Tyson closed the match with an 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 victory.
 
The Cavaliers host Johns Hopkins tomorrow as the team plays its last home match of the year at the McArthur Squash Center. The match will begin at  11:15 a.m.
