Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia men’s golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule in Hawai’i at the John Burns Intercollegiate. The event is contested at the par-72 Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Kauai’i.
 
Format: The 54-hole tournament will take place Thursday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 23. The 20-team field will play 18 holes each day with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. HT.

Last Year: Virginia tied with Arizona for fourth place at 6-under 858. Texas A&M won the event at 29-under 835. Thomas Walsh led UVA by shooting 6-under 210 to finish fifth. Andrew Orischak finished seventh at 4-under 212. Danny Walker and Ashton Poole were 43rd at 219 and WeiWei Gao was 64th at 224. Texas A&M’s Chandler Phillips took medalist honors at 13-under 203.
 
UVA Notes: Senior All-American Thomas Walsh led UVA in scoring in all four fall tournaments. He topped off his fall with a win at the Inverness Invitational. Walsh is the reigning ACC individual champion. He competed in the Sun Bowl All-American Classic in November where he placed 14th. Walsh has shot par or better in 13 of 15 rounds this season … Andrew Orischak recorded his top tournament score (-5, 211) at the 2017 John Burns. He has back-to-back top-10 finishes (7th in 2018) at the event … UVA has four players in its lineup (Walsh, Orischak, Poole, Gao) who played in the 2018 John Burns.
 
Up Next: The Cavaliers make their annual trek to compete in the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The two-day, 54-event takes place March 11-12.
