Morgan Leads UVA on Day Two of John Burns Intercollegiate

Lihu’e, Hawaii – Despite improving on its first-round score by seven strokes, the UVA men’s golf team could not move up from 14th place on the leaderboard at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii.
Virginia fired a second-round score of 3-under 285 on Friday for a 36-hole total of 1-over 577. No. 11 Arizona State leads the 20-team field at 18-under 558 while second-ranked Duke is two strokes behind the Sun Devils.
UVA was led in the second round by a 3-under 69 from freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.). That matched his best 18-hole score as a collegiate and allowed him to move up to 50th place at 2-over 146 after 36 holes of play.
Juniors Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) and Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) lead UVA while tied for 25th place at 2-under 142. Poole shot even par 72 on Friday while Orischak carded a round of 1-under 71 for the second consecutive day.
UVA senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is 48th at 147 and sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) is 82nd at 150.
The final round of the tournament gets underway at 8 a.m. HT on Saturday.
