Providence, R.I. – Freshmen Patrick McElroy (Brookline, Mass.) and Will Holey (Greenwich, Conn.) concluded the opening day of the Molloy Cup at the College Squash Individual Championships at the Nicol Squash Club on Friday (March 1) with McElroy advancing to the semifinals.
 
Both Cavaliers recorded wins in their opening match as McElroy defeated Mohammad Harith Khawaja (Amherst) 11-8, 11-3, 11-5 in the Round of 16 in the Molloy Cup East. He advanced to the quarterfinals to face Elliot Gross (Colby), winning the match 11-6, 11-9, 11-6.
 
Holey opened the day with a win against Senen Ubina (Navy) in the Round of 16 in the Molloy Cup South. He topped Ubina 12-10, 11-6, 11-6, earning a spot in the quarterfinals against Ricardo Lopez (Rochester). Holey fell 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 in the quarterfinals, concluding his time at the tournament.
 
Up Next
With today’s win, McElroy advances to Saturday’s semifinals to face Charles Culhane (Cornell). The two will compete at 4 p.m.
