UVA Rebounds for Sixth-Place Finish at Linger Longer Invitational
Greensboro, Ga. – The Virginia men’s golf team used a strong final day of play to finish sixth at the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 6-under 282 for the second consecutive round for a three-day total of 2-under 862. It marked the second consecutive round UVA posted the second lowest score among the field’s 15 teams. UVA was in 13th place following Friday’s opening round.
No. 15 Georgia took the team title at 19-under 845.
Freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.) was the Cavaliers top finisher, placing eight at 4-under 212. He shot 1-under 71 on Sunday and played his final 36 holes at 8-under par. It marked Morgan’s first top-10 finish. His tournament total and second-round score were both career-bests.
Junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) finished 13th at 2-under 214, including a final-round score of 2-under 70. Sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) had UVA’s best finishing score, shooting 3-under 69 to move up to 30th place at 2-over 218. He shared that position on the leaderboard with senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) who shot 72 during the final around.
Freshman Jack Montague (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) was 81st at 236 and senior Ashton Poole, who competed as an individual, was 58th at 225.
Next up on the schedule, UVA plays at the Hootie @Bulls Bay tournament starting Sunday.
