Nine Cavaliers Named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team had nine players named to the 2018 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Squad. The entire Cavalier team was also honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association with the 2018 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Team Award, the eighth-straight year the squad earned that distinction.
The ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Virginia’s honorees were senior Nikki Freeman (Downington, Pa.), sophomore Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.), freshman Taylor Henriksen (Falls Church, Va.), redshirt senior Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.), senior Izzy McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.), freshman Annie McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.), sophomore Rachel Robinson (Mount Joy, Pa.), freshman Grace Wallis (Blue Bell, Pa.) and junior Catesby Willis (Fredericksburg, Va.).
Lucas earned the honor for the fifth time in her career while Izzy McDonough was named to the team for the fourth time.
The Cavaliers were one of 76 programs this year to earn the ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Academic Team Award, bestowed upon programs with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
