Cavaliers in Fifth Place to Start Clemson Invitational
Salem, S.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team shot 4-under 284 and is in fifth place after the opening 18 holes of the Clemson Invitational at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C. Georgia Tech leads the 15-team field at 16-under 272.
Virginia was led by a pair of 2-under scores of 70 by junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.). They are tied for 16th place.
Sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) and senior Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) are tied for 27th place after shooting even par 72. Senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) posted a score of 73 and is in 35th place. Sophomore Max Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.), who is competing as an individual, shot 74 and is in 42nd place.
The second round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday and the final round gets underway Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
