Salem, S.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team posted its best single-round total and tournament score of the season to finish fifth at the Clemson Invitational at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 13-under 275 during Sunday’s final round for a three-day total of 22-under 842. Georgia Tech won the event at 52-under 812.
 
Senior All-American Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) equaled his career low 18-hole score, shooting 7-under 65, to lead the Cavaliers during the final round. He tied for seventh place at 10-under 206. Junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) tied with Walsh for seventh place. He shot 6-under 66 to post an under-par round for the third consecutive day.
 
Senior Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) was 29th at 1-under 215, his best finish and tournament score during the season. Sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) finished 33rd at 1-over 217. He shot 73 during the final round. Sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) rounded out UVA’s scoring with a season-best 54-hole score of 4-over 220.
 
Sophomore Max Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.), who competed as an individual, shot 73 and placed 53rd at 6-over 222. It was his first tournament appearance as a Cavalier.
 
UVA opens play at the ACC Championships April 18-20.
