CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia softball (22-30, 8-16 ACC) returns to the ACC Softball Championship for the second time in the past three seasons, earning the No. 10 seed. The Cavaliers will face No. 7 seed Georgia Tech (30-26, 11-13 ACC) in the first round at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Virginia ended the regular season tied for ninth in the league standings with Syracuse. Since the Cavaliers and Orange did not play this season, Virginia fell to the No. 10 seed based on record versus the highest-seeded common opponent, Notre Dame.

Virginia has faced Georgia Tech 17 times in ACC tournament action, posting an 8-9 record against the Yellow Jackets in postseason play. The two teams last met in the postseason in 2012 when Georgia Tech claimed a 6-4 win in the opening round. Virginia’s last ACC tournament win came in 2011 against the Yellow Jackets.
Florida State, the host and No. 2 seed, awaits the winner of Wednesday’s first-round matchup.
The first three rounds will be broadcast on the league’s Regional Sports Networks, and ESPN will carry the championship game.
