CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Eight current members of the Virginia field hockey team and a recent graduate have been selected to participate in the 2019 Young Women’s National Championship, being held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa., from June 14-18.
Junior Makayla Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.), sophomore Greer Gill (Virginia Beach, Va.), junior Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.), freshman Adele Iacobucci (Malvern, Pa.), senior Colleen Norair (Fredericksburg, Va.), junior Rachel Robinson (Mount Joy, Pa.), senior Erin Shanahan (Pasadena, Md.) and sophomore Peyton Tollaksen (Chesapeake, Va.) have all been selected to compete. Additionally alumna Carrera Lucas has also been selected.
The YWNC is an annual event featuring 144 elite female field hockey athletes, including for the first time the 2019 U.S. U-19 Women’s National Team along with top collegiate and post-collegiate players. Over the spring, select athletes tried out and trained at USA Field Hockey High-Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to earn a spot in the tournament that is the next step on the Olympic Development Pathway. These teams will face off for the prestigious title of national champions and for an opportunity to be selected to the 2020 U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Development Team, or a trial for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
A complete schedule of the tournament is available on the USA Field Hockey website.
USA Field Hockey is pleased to partner with Blue Ridge Cable to provide a live stream of the bronze and gold medal matches of the YWNC on Tuesday, June 18 on usafieldhockey.com. Fans can watch both games on the official YWNC event page by clicking here.
