ACC Release

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia goalkeeper Colin Shutler (Middleburg, Va.) was named Atlantic Coast Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday (Sept. 9). It marks the second time in as many weeks a Cavalier has taken home ACC weekly honors.

Shutler was credited with two shutouts including a clean sheet against then-No. 1 Maryland last Monday (Sept. 2). He made a pair of saves in 1-0 win over High Point on Saturday (Sept. 7) to help the Cavaliers to the fifth 3-0 start under George Gelnovatch. Shutler has yet to concede a goal in 270 minutes played this year and now has 11 shutouts in two seasons as the Cavalier netminder.

Virginia is one of 12 teams in the country that has not allowed a goal. Shutler leads the nation in goals against average (0.00), save percentage (1.000) and shutouts (3).

This is the third time in his career Shutler has garnered ACC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

The Cavaliers open up ACC play on Friday when they travel to No. 5 Duke. The match is scheduled to air on ESPNU at 6 p.m.
