No. 6 Virginia Hosts Yale on Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team (4-1, 0-0 ACC) finishes off the weekend by hosting Yale (1-1, 0-0 Ivy League) on Sunday (Sept. 15) at 2 p.m. at Turf Field in Charlottesville

Noting the Cavaliers
- Head coach Michele Madison comes into the game with a 398-240-8 career record as a head coach. She is two wins away from becoming the ninth NCAA Division I coach to tally 400 career wins
- The Cavaliers are coming off a 3-2 shoot-out loss at No. 4 Maryland on Friday night
- Two defenders, Amber Ezechiels (Niew Vennep, Netherlands) and junior Rachel Robinson (Mount Joy, Pa.) scored the Cavalier goals
- Both of Virginia’s goals came off penalty corners; Maryland did not score off of a penalty corner
- It was Ezechiels’ first goal of the season and the third for Robinson. Robinson is second on the team with seven points
- Senior back Anzel Viljoen (Matamata, New Zealand) and sophomore midfielder Greer Gill (Virginia Beach, Va.) each had an assist
- Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.) had a career-high eight saves, including four saves in the overtime periods
- Hausheer is now 2-for-2 on the season in saving strokes after stopping one in the second overtime period
- Maryland took 25 shots to Virginia’s 15
- Virginia is 3-0 at home this season
- Sunday is Girl Scout Day with UVA Scout day patches for the first 300 Girl Scouts in attendance. Scouts are also invited to join the team on-field for the anthem
Rankings
- The Cavaliers started the season ranked No. 11 in the NFHCA rankings, but moved up to No. 6 in this week’s poll
- Virginia has been ranked in the top-25 every single week since the 2012 preseason poll
Noting Yale
- Yale is 1-1 on the year, falling 4-1 to UMass in last weekend’s season-opener before topping Sacred Heart, 4-0, on Sunday
- The Bulldogs will play at No. 16 Liberty on Saturday before facing UVA on Sunday
- Virginia is 4-0 all-time against Yale. This is the first meeting between the two since 2013
On the Horizon
- The Cavaliers open ACC play on Friday, Sept. 20 when they travel to play at No. 23 Syracuse at 4:30 p.m.
- Friday’s game will be Virginia’s first appearance on the ACC Network
- Virginia will have the remainder of the weekend off before hosting James Madison in a special mid-week match on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.
- UVA will close out that homestand by hosting defending-national-champion North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. The UNC game will air on the ACC Regional Sports Networks
