CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 5 Virginia field hockey team (7-1, 1-0 ACC) takes on defending-national champion No. 1 North Carolina (7-0, 1-0 ACC) at Turf Field on Friday (Sept. 27) at 5 p.m.

Noting the Cavaliers
- Virginia’s defense has crafted three-straight shutouts
- Redshirt sophomore goalie Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.) ranks second in the nation in save percentage (.861) and leads the ACC in that category. She also leads the ACC with 3.88 saves per game
- Hausheer leads the ACC with four shutouts this season
- Hausheer came into the week ranked third in the nation in goals-against average (.68), and then lowered that to 0.60 after Tuesday’s shutout
- Hausheer is 2-for-2 in saving stroke attempts this season
- Junior striker Makayla Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.) leads the team in goals (5) and points (11)
- Gallen has two multi-goal games and has scored two game-winners this season
- Gallen’s five goals are already more than any single player on the team scored last season
- Senior back Anzel Viljoen (Matamata, New Zealand) leads the team with six assists and is third in the ACC with 0.75 assists per game. She came into the week ranked eighth in the nation in assists per game
- Viljoen has scored a goal in each of the last two games
- Sophomore Annie McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.) is tied for fourth in the ACC in assists per game (.57)
First Years
- The Cavalier freshman class have been large contributors to this year’s success
- Adele Iacobucci (Malvern, Pa.) scored her first collegiate goal, the game-winner against JMU. Freshmen have scored the game-winning goal in four of Virginia’s seven victories
- Cato Geusgens (Wassenaar, Netherlands) has three goals this season to lead the freshman class. Laura Janssen (Nijmegen, Netherlands) also has two goals and an assist
- Olivia Marrus (Houston, Tex.) and Danielle Husar (Mississaugua, Canada) each have an assist

- The Cavaliers remained at No. 5 in this week’s NFHCA rankings
- The Cavaliers started the season ranked No. 11
