Franklin and Marshall Results | Middlebury Results

Lancaster, Pa.- The No. 11 Virginia women’s squash team (11-5) swept No. 20 Franklin and Marshall (5-6) and No. 14 Middlebury (9-3) in matches on Saturday (Jan. 26). The Cavaliers defeated Franklin and Marshall 9-0 at the Mayser Squash Courts, before traveling down the road to Lancaster Country Day School where the team defeated Middlebury, 9-0.

Seven Cavaliers recorded a pair of victories during the day, winning a match against both Franklin and Marshall and Middlebury.

Freshman Emma Jinks (Stratford, Canada) captured a pair of wins at the top of the Cavaliers ladder, defeating Ellen Verry (Franklin and Marshall) 11-7, 8-11, 11-2, 11-3 and Beatrijs Kuijpers (Middlebury) 11-4, 11-9, 11-8.

Freshman Caroline Baldwin (Rye, N.Y.) defeated Emily Knapp (Franklin and Marshall) in position two, 11-7, 11-6, 11-13, 11-0, and Virginia Schause (Middlebury) in position four, 9-11, 11-0, 11-7, 11-7, while sophomore Emily Woodworth (Weston, Mass.) defeated Katherine Galmbos ( Franklin and Marshall) 11-6, 11-2, 11-6 in position three and Anne Glassie (Middlebury) 12-10, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8 in position five.

Junior Sarah Doss (Richmond, Va.) won 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 in position four against Emily Bartos (Franklin and Marshall) and 11-5, 7-11, 11-3, 11-9 in position six against Natalie Madden (Middlebury) as sophomore Giovanna Veiga de Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) topped Melissa Epstein (Franklin and Marshall) 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 in position five before defeating Gwen Davis (Middlebury) 11-9, 11-7, 12-10 in position seven.

Senior Annie Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) and junior Julia Thompson (Newtown Square, Pa.) rounded out the day with a win in both matches. Tyson defeated Grace Smith (Franklin and Marshall) in position six 11-6, 11-7, 11-2 and Natasha Lowitt (Middlebury) in position eight 11-8, 11-5, 11-1, while Thompson defeated Liana Zranchev (Franklin and Marshall) 11-3, 11-4, 11-2 in position seven and Mira Chugh (Middlebury) in position nine 11-7, 11-6, 11-3.

Additionally, senior Madeleine Mayhew (New York, N.Y.) captured a win in position nine in the team’s match against Franklin and Marshall, defeating Mimi Fairbanks 11-2, 11-2, 11-1, while junior Tara Arya (Cupertino Calif.) and freshman Mandy Haywood (Christ Church Barbados) rounded out the team’s match against Middlebury. Arya defeated Ideal Dowling in position two 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 12-10 and Haywood defeated Alexa Comai in position three 12-10, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8.

The Cavaliers will return home tomorrow, hosting No. 4 Yale in a match at the McArthur Squash Center at 1 p.m.
