UVA Wins Varsity Eight and Varsity Four at Rivanna Romp
EARLYSVILLE, Va. — The Virginia rowing team won the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four races as the Cavaliers concluded their fall season at the Rivanna Romp on Sunday (Nov. 17) on the Rivanna Reservoir.
The annual regatta featured crews from Central Florida, Clemson, Duke, Louisville, Miami, SMU and the host Cavaliers.
Virginia has now captured the last 14 Varsity Eight races at the Romp, while the UVA Varsity Four has won 11 of the last 13 races.
The Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight picked up their 14th consecutive win at the Rivanna Romp, completing the 4,000-meter course with a winning time of 13:23.5. Duke First Varsity Eight placed second at 13:28.5 followed by UVA’s Second Varsity Eight (13:32.2), Duke’s Second Varsity Eight (13:47.8) and UCF’s First Varsity Eight at 13:51.7. Virginia’s Third Varsity Eight placed ninth and Fourth Varsity Eight finished 11th.
UVA’s First Varsity Four edged the Cavaliers’ Second Varsity Four 14:59.7-15:00.3. Duke’s First Varsity Four finished third at 15:04.9 followed by the Blue Devils’ Second Varsity Four at 15:13.6. Virginia’s Fourth Varsity Four finished fifth at 15:15.9.
Virginia placed second, sixth and ninth, respectively, in the novice eight race.
