Combined, the group holds eight Virginia top-10 marks in the career, single-season and single-match record books.
LAST TIME VERSUS BOSTON COLLEGE
The Cavaliers traveled to BC back on Oct. 11, falling in a tight three-set affair by a 25-23, 28-26, 25-21 margin. Jayna Francis (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Mattison Matthews (Charleston, S.C.) co-led the Cavaliers with 10 kills apiece.
Matthews committed just a single error in 13 swings to hit .692 in the match. The mark is Matthews’ career high.
Boston College was paced by 12 kills from middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu. Cat Balido added another 11 for the Eagles.
With two matches remaining in the season, Virginia’s freshman middle Matthews is chasing the freshman record for hitting percentage. Matthews is at .382 this season, the highest mark on the team.
Matthews is trying to top Anna Walsh’s mark from 2015 of .354, which currently stands as the most efficient performance by a freshman at Virginia. Overall, Matthews’ .382 hitting percentage would rank second all-time for a single season at Virginia.
Virginia concludes its 2019 season with a trip to rival Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 27. First serve against the Hokies is set for 4:30 p.m.
