CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball senior Jelena Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Mattison Matthews (Charleston, S.C.) were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State second team on Friday (Jan. 10).
 
Novakovic led the Cavaliers with 286 kills in 2019. The senior averaged 2.70 kills per set while hitting a career-best .228. Novakovic also set a career high with her 3.43 points per set average in 2019. At the service line, she produced a career-best 42 aces to finish the season ranked 68th in the nation.
 
Matthews burst onto the scene by setting a Virginia freshman record with her .382 hitting percentage. The middle blocker ended the season third in the ACC in hitting percentage while tying for 31st nationally. In her first campaign with the Cavaliers, Matthews finished the season with 86 blocks, averaging one per set.
 
This is the second-straight season Virginia has had a pair of players named to the VaSID All-State teams. The recognition is the first for both Novakovic and Matthews.
