No. 8 Virginia Sweeps Vassar, 9-0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 8 Virginia men’s squash team (6-3) swept Vassar (4-11), 9-0, on Saturday (Jan. 11) at the McArthur Squash Center. The Cavaliers won all nine matchups against the Brewers 3-0.
Freshman Aly Hussein (Cairo, Egypt) opened the day with an 11-6, 11-5, 11-2 win over Sameer Mustafa at the top of the ladder. Junior Andrew Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) followed with an 11-1, 11-3, 11-1 win against Max G. Swan in position six, while junior Matthew Katz (Baltimore, Md.) topped Liam Condon 11-4, 11-2, 11-4 in position seven.
Junior William Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) defeated Matthew Hein 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 in position four and senior Harrison Kapp (Philadelphia, Pa.) defeated Liam Condon 11-4, 11-2, 11-4 in position nine to give the Cavaliers the win.
Freshman Omar El Torkey (New Cario, Egypt) added a point with a win against Henry Mitchell. Torkey topped position two 11-3, 11-5, 11-4. Redshirt freshman Peter Miller (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) topped Alex Wisneski 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 in position three, while freshman Teddy Durfee (Bedford, N.Y.) won against Reese Collins 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 in position five and freshman Tyler Mackesy (Bronxville, N.Y.) won against Jonah Miles 11-2, 11-0, 11-2 in position eight.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Sunday to host No. 13 Western Ontario at noon at the McArthur Squash Center.
