PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore Sydney Maxwell (Toronto, Ontario) led members of the Virginia men’s and women’s squash teams on the second day (March 7) of the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships at Pennsylvania’s Penn Squash Center.
 
Maxwell won her matchup against William Smith’s Marcela Marquez in the consolation semifinals of the Holleran South, the B division of the CSA Individual Championships. Maxwell defeated her opponent in three games, going 11-5, 15-13, 11-8 to advance to the consolation finals. She’ll face Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige from Mt. Holyoke in the consolation finals on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. 
 
In addition to Maxwell, junior Giovanna Veiga de Almeida (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) competed in the Holleran East consolation semifinals. The junior battled through five games, falling 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5 to Claire Davidson of Tufts. 
 
Freshman Omar El Torkey (New Cairo, Egypt) faced Victor Crouin of Harvard in the Pool consolation semifinals, the A division of the CSA Individual Championships, where he fell 11-9, 11-5, 11-3.
 
Maxwell will continue play in the tournament tomorrow. She will compete in the Holleran South consolation finals against Mihiliya Kalahe Arachchige at 9:30 a.m.
