Aiken, S.C. – Led by freshman Pietro Bovari (Milano, Italy), the Virginia men’s golf team posted a runner-up finish on Tuesday at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The Cavaliers shot 4-over 284 during the final round for a 54-hole total of 11-under 829. Clemson won the tournament by shooting 27-under 813. Those two teams ran away from the rest of the 15-team pack. Furman, the third-place finisher, was 23 shots behind UVA on the leaderboard.
 
Bovari turned in his best outing as a Cavalier, finishing fourth at 6-under 204. He shot 3-under 67 during the final round. Junior WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Phillipines) was fifth at 2-under 208. Gao posted a final-round score of even par 70. It was Gao’s second career top-10 finish.
 
Junior Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) also managed a top-10 outing, placing ninth at 1-over 211. He shot 75 during the final round. It was Massie’s third straight top-10 finish at the event.
 
Senior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and sophomore Sam Jung (Centreville, Va.) tied for 13th place at 3-over 213. Orischak carded a final-round score of 75 while Jung finished with a 72.
 
Clemson’s Jacob Bridgeman claimed medalist honors at 12-under 198.
 
The Cavaliers are back in action March 22-24 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate played in Williamsburg, Va.
