CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia battery mates Aly Rayle (Herndon, Va.) and Donna Friedman (Orange, Calif.) were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State second team on Wednesday (June 17).
 
Rayle led an emerging Virginia pitching staff to post the best numbers in the program since 2013. The sophomore right-hander was 6-4 in the shortened season while posting a 2.91 ERA. Rayle fanned 74 batters while issuing just 17 walks in 57 2/3 innings in 2020. She held opponents to just a .188 batting average against on the year.
 
Friedman led Virginia at the plate, posting a .324 batting average over the 22-game season. The catcher also led the Cavaliers with 13 RBI on the year while co-leading the team with three home runs.
 
The VaSID selections are the first for both Rayle and Friedman.
