CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia libero Madison Morey (Marietta, Ga.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week after her performance in the Cavaliers’ season-opening win over The Citadel.

Making her first collegiate start, Morey racked up 20 digs to lead all players in the match. Her average of 6.67 digs per set ranks second among all players nationally this fall.

Morey’s 20 digs were the most by a UVA freshman in their debut since Emily Rottman in 2010. Her 20 digs were also the most in a three-set match by a UVA freshman since Melissa Caldwell posted 27 in 2004. Caldwell and Rottman rank first and third all-time at UVA in digs, respectively.

Morey and the Cavaliers will open ACC play on Friday, Oct. 2, when Duke visits Memorial Gymnasium for the first of two matches with the Blue Devils.
