CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia will go into the fall 2020 season as the No. 3 team in the country according to the initial United Soccer Coaches Rankings. The Cavaliers were the No. 2 team in the country in the final 2019 poll after reaching the program’s ninth NCAA Championship Game and 13th College Cup.

Virginia is one of only five teams nationally ranked in this year’s condensed rankings. All five teams are from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Due to the impact of the pandemic on fall schedules, only teams competing in the fall were considered for the poll. The number of teams appearing in each ranking is also lower due to the lower number of teams competing. The men’s poll in 2020 will consist of a Top Five national ranking for the remainder of the fall season.

The Cavaliers will open up their 2020 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 3 with a road match at Virginia Tech.
