Pompano Beach, Fla. – Virginia golfers Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, Del.) and Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.) both turned in top-10 finishes at this weekend’s 2020 Women’s Dixie Amateur Championship held at Palm Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Cleary, a first year at UVA, tied for sixth overall at even par 216 while Smyth was one stroke behind her in ninth place.
Cleary had rounds of 72, 69 and 75. She was one of just five players in the field to post a round in the 60s.
Smyth, a junior, recorded scores of 70, 76 and 71. She had 11 birdies during the competition, tying her for the fifth most for that statistic.
Cavalier sophomore Celeste Valinho tied for 22nd place at 7-over 223. After opening with a 4-over 77, she bounced back to shoot 1-over 73 during the final two rounds.
Florida State’s Taylor Roberts won the tournament at 9-under 207.
