The Cavaliers return to action on Thursday night, hosting the Duke Blue Devils at Klöckner Stadium. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. UVA is ranked No. 4 in this week’s USILA coaches poll and No. 3 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. Duke is No. 3 in the coaches poll and No. 4 in the media poll.

• Thursday marks the 85th all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and Blue Devils, a series in which the Cavaliers own a 50-34 advantage since 1938. The 50 victories are the second most wins UVA has against an opponent in program history, but the Blue Devils have won 19 of the last 21 meetings, including the last 15 regular season meetings. Virginia’s two wins in the series came in the 2010 ACC Tournament and the semifinals of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
• UVA won the last meeting between these two programs in double-overtime at Lincoln Financial Field in the 2019 NCAA Tournament on an Ian Laviano game-winning goal.
• Matt Moore needs two assists to become the fifth player in program history to join the 100-goal/100-assist career club.
• UVA is No. 16 in the nation in caused turnovers per game (8.64), No. 1 in the nation in opponent clearing percentage (.757) and No. 2 in the nation in ground balls per game (42.82)
• FO Petey LaSalla is No. 11 in the nation with 7.91 ground balls per game and No. 8 in faceoff winning percentage with a 65.9 percent success rate.
• Payton Cormier leads UVA with 32 goals in just 11 games. He had 12 goals in UVA’s six games in 2020. Cormier also has at least a hat-trick in 10 of his 17 career games. Cormier is No. 7 in the nation with 32 goals.
• Connor Shellenberger leads the nation’s freshmen with 47 points, which ranks No. 8 in the country overall. Shellenberger is also No. 4 in the nation with 28 assists.
• Kyle Kology is No. 6 in the nation with 19 caused turnovers.
