CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (8-6, 3-6 ACC) fell 15-4 at No. 1 North Carolina (14-0, 8-0 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at Dorrance Field.

Four players scored for the Cavaliers. Sophomore Kiki Shaw (Owings Mills, Md.), freshman Morgan Schwab (Fairport, N.Y.), redshirt junior Ashlyn McGovern (Phoenix, Md.) and sophomore Jaime Biskup (Manorville, N.Y.) each had a goal. Senior Jillie Quevedo (Pittsford, N.Y.) led the defense with three ground balls and one caused turnover.

Virginia had the edge in ground balls, 15-13. UNC led in shots (28-15) and draw controls (12-8). UVA had seven saves, with sophomore Aislinn McCarthy (Wellesley, Mass.) making a career-high five, while UNC had six saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

North Carolina scored the first 11 goals of the game. UVA scored its first goal when Shaw ran through the Tar Heel defense to score at the 2:45 mark in the first half. UVA trailed 12-1 at the break. UNC scored twice to open the second half. Senior Taylor Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) dished it to McGovern for a UVA goal at the 18:43 mark. The Tar Heels scored their final goal of the game at 14:57. Junior Lillie Kloak (Ridgewood, N.J.) assisted Schwab and Biskup ran through the defense for a goal.

NOTES

  • McCarthy took over in goal in the first half, making five saves and allowing four goals.
  • Quevedo and freshman Maggie Bostain (Richmond, Va.) each had three ground balls to lead the team.
  • UVA finished with seven caused turnovers.
