CAIRO, Egypt – Virginia men’s squash Omar El Torkey rising junior was victorious at the Smash Basem Makram this week in Cairo, claiming his maiden PSA Tour title at 20 years of age.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Challenger 3 level tournament was run with only domestic entrants, with the 16 players involved all living in Egypt.

El Torkey was the No.4 seed for the event, and he started with a win over Moamed Gohar in the first round. He then defeated No.8 seed Omar Gohary in the quarter-finals, before downing top see Ali Yacout 3-1 to make his first final.

In that match, he came up against No.5 seed Ziad Ibrahim, and despite losing the first game of the final, El Torkey fought back to win it 3-1, claiming his first title on Tour.
