CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After having its season-opening tournament at the Scenic City Collegiate washed out, the Virginia men’s golf team will play its first event of the fall this week at the Hamptons Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Maidstone Club (West Course) in East Hamptons, N.Y. The event is being hosted by Loyola (Md.).

The 12-team field will play 18 holes on Monday morning with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m., followed by another 18 that afternoon. Competition will then wrap up the tournament on Tuesday with the final round getting underway at 7:45 a.m.

The field includes California, Duke, George Washington, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Liberty, Loyola, Northwestern, Penn, Princeton and Yale.

The Cavaliers’ lineup for the tournament includes sophomore George Duangmanee, sophomore Chris Fosdick, senior Sam Jung, junior Pietro Bovari and freshman Deven Patel. Senior Jack Montague will compete as an individual.

Bovari led UVA in stroke average last season at 72.43 for seven tournaments while Duangmanee was second at 72.92. This will be Jung’s first collegiate event since he placed 13th at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in 2020.

Maidstone is one of the premier courses on the East Coast, opening in 1891 before being expanded to 18 holes in 1899; Ben Crenshaw completed extensive renovations on the course in 2012. The club was ranked No. 37 in Golf Magazine’s  “Top 100 courses in the U.S.” and No. 67 in “Top 100 courses of the world.”
