No. 7 Virginia Falls 6-3 at No. 8 Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s squash team (1-1) suffered a 6-3 loss at No. 8 Yale (1-0) on Saturday (Nov. 13) at the Brady Squash Center in New Haven, Ct.

Juniors Aly Hussein and Omar El Torkey picked up wins on the top two ladder positions. Sophomore Myles McIntyre also won his match at six.

Hussein played the quickest match of the day, winning in three games against Harrison Gill. McIntyre battled through five games. He won his opener against Jed Burde 11-4, but then dropped the second two. He pulled out a 14-12 win in game four to keep the match alive and then edged Burde 11-8 in the fifth to earn the Cavaliers’ second point. El Torkey dropped his first game 12-10 but won his final three to close out the match by earning UVA’s third point.

“Despite the two losses,s it felt great to be competing again. Both men’s and women’s matches were hard and well-fought battles and we will be taking away some positives into what’s likely to be another close match tomorrow against Columbia. Omar El Torkey and Aly Hussein picked up right where they left off as first years – winning at the top of our order. Fellow Egyptian Taha Dinana was close to joining them narrowly losing out in five. Second-year Myles McIntyre had a great win, finishing strong to pick up a 2-1 down, come from behind win in position 6. So lots to build on!

  • The Cavaliers close out the road trip playing at No. 6 Columbia on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.
  • The match against the Lions will be 3-court system
